Keynote speaker: Ellen Woodsworth, Co President Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom, WILPF Canada

Welcome: Musqueam representative

Opening and closing words: Janet Pivnick

The Let Peace Be Their Memorial (LPBTM) ceremony aims to broaden our Remembrance Day focus to better reflect the diversity of Canadian perspectives on war and remembrance, and the personal war experiences of many immigrant Canadians. War’s victims include the civilians who now make up an estimated 90% of conflict victims, and immense damage to the environment. We must challenge the beliefs, values and institutions that make war seem inevitable; and to urge our government to promote and fund effective non-military means of dispute resolution.

RECEPTION

Please join the Social Justice Team and other peace activists in Hewett Hall immediately following the ceremony.

Light refreshments will be served at the reception and everyone will have a chance to socialize and view posters related to conflict and peace building efforts. Time will be provided for informal discussion with the wreath layers, photographs, and viewing the wreaths.
